We've all been a little starry eyed at Target3D recently... After months of top-secret planning and behind the scenes work, One Direction star Liam Payne - and his AR avatar - were unveiled on Sunday.

We first worked with London-based live-performance and technology company, The Round, when they received Innovate UK’s funding for their self-titled concept – an immersive Augmented Reality app for live performances.

For the current project, which turns viewers' surroundings into a virtual venue through their mobile, Target3D supported The Round by managing the performance capture of Liam, including facial and body tracking.
The Round app, made possible using EE’s 5G-network, previewed immediately before Sunday's 2021 BAFTAs and offered fans an exclusive experience with the platinum-selling singer.

Liam's data was instantly transformed into 3D animations that were live-synced and transmitted in real-time for fans to experience the performance live through the Round app on their mobile: app users excitedly reported that 'Liam' was in their bedroom, on their sofa and at their kitchen table!

If you missed it on Sunday, you can immerse yourself in Liam's AR performance by downloading The Round App.
